FairPrice started the Used Textbooks Project in 1983 to relieve the financial burden of needy families by providing free second-hand textbooks for lower-income families. Amid the rising cost of living, the project aims to help financially-stretched families reduce textbook expenses and ease their financial burden. For the past 26 years, the FairPrice Used Textbooks Project has received very encouraging response from the public, having collected more than 1.8 million books and helped over 120,000 needy students save more than S$8 million in textbooks expenses.
