Urad Dal (soaked for 4 hours or overnight)

Red Onion (finely chopped)

How to cook

Prepare the urad dal batter

  • Drain excess water from the urad dal. Grind the urad dal in a food processor with minimal water to form a smooth batter.
  • Add the salt, as well as the rest of the ingredients into a bowl. Mix well.
  • If the batter appears too watery in the bowl, add rice flour.

Deep fry the medu vada

  • Take a spoonful and make a ring of the batter.
  • Allow each medhu vada to cook in medium hot oil.
  • Take them out of the oil once they are cooked with an even golden-brown colour.
