Urad Dal (soaked for 4 hours or overnight) | 1 cup |
Red Onion (finely chopped) | 1 |
Green Chillies (finely chopped) | 2 |
Coriander (leaf only, finely chopped) | 1 spring |
Curry Leaves (chopped coarsely) | 4 |
Ginger (finely chopped) | 1 knob |
Black Peppers (crushed) | 9 |
Smart Choice Cooking Oil - Vegetable (for frying) | |
Salt, or per taste | 2 tsp |
Rice Flour (optional) | 1 1⁄2 tbsp |
How to cook
Prepare the urad dal batter
- Drain excess water from the urad dal. Grind the urad dal in a food processor with minimal water to form a smooth batter.
- Add the salt, as well as the rest of the ingredients into a bowl. Mix well.
- If the batter appears too watery in the bowl, add rice flour.
Deep fry the medu vada
- Take a spoonful and make a ring of the batter.
- Allow each medhu vada to cook in medium hot oil.
- Take them out of the oil once they are cooked with an even golden-brown colour.
