Organic Outdoors - Packing your organic picnic basket

Blessed with year-round sun and lush greenery, we’re practically being begged outdoors for a picnic. You don’t need to be a master chef to prepare for the occasion but if you could do with some help, here are five fuss-free recipes – made fresh from FairPrice Finest organic selections, that will have you whipping up yummy, healthy and portable snacks in a flash!

French Baguette, Cheese and Dipping Oil

If this isn’t an essential in every picnic basket, we don’t know what is. Prep your dipping oil with extra virgin olive oil and a dash of oregano, parsley, rosemary, and granulated garlic. Serve with slices of French baguette, cheese of your choice (try Camembert or Brie), and organic grapes.

Veggie Sticks with Hummus or Guacamole

Making your own hummus is way easier than you’d imagine. Simply put washed chickpeas, lemon juice, extra virgin olive oil, crushed garlic and tahini (grab a bottle of organic tahini at your nearest FairPrice Finest) in a blender, and hit the button. For guacamole, use a garlic clove per avocado, mash together with a generous squeeze of lemon, rock salt and a flick of ground chilli on top. Chop up carrots, cucumbers, and celery (or switch it up with your favourite greens) and relish it with your home-made dip.

Superfood Trail Mix

This recipe only takes 5 minutes – we kid you not. Just grab a big bowl and mix in your choice of nuts (try pistachios, walnuts, cashews, and pecans) and dried berries (we love goji, raisins, cranberries, blueberries). Pack your desired amount for the picnic, and store the rest for your future snacking needs (it’s also very couch-potato friendly).

Antioxidant Fruit Salad

A nifty dessert that packs your daily dose of nutritious goodness? Bring it on! All you have to do is dice some super-fruits and toss them with a drizzle of lime juice. High Priestess of Domesticity Nigella Lawson recommends a mix of fresh mangoes, blueberries, and pomegranate, but feel free to throw in kiwis (rich in vitamin C and E) and other berries like raspberries or blackberries.

Make-Your-Own Lemonade or Fresh Lime Juice

Impress your pals with a tumbler of thirst-quenching, hand-squeezed lemonade or lime juice made with TLC. If you’re that busy, it’s fine to cheat and snag a few bottles of organic juice or cider from your nearest FairPrice Finest. Try R.W.Knudsen’s organic prune juice or Bragg’s organic apple cider with vinegar and honey.
