NTUC FairPrice Partners Singapore Red Cross to Rebuild Lives For Disaster Victims in The Philippines and Indonesia
- FairPrice kick starts donation drive by contributing $20,000 for victims of The Philippines Tropical Storm and the Padang (Sumatra) Earthquake.
NTUC FairPrice is mobilizing the community to reach out and help victims of disaster-struck cities in The Philippines and Padang, Sumatra; by partnering Singapore Red Cross to raise funds for the Philippines Tropical Storm Appeal and the Padang (Sumatra) Earthquake Appeal. Members of the public are able to contribute their donations at over 230 FairPrice outlets islandwide, including Cheers and FairPrice Xpress. All donations made will be earmarked specifically for the relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts for survivors of the disaster. To kick-start the donation drive, NTUC FairPrice will be giving $20,000 towards this cause.
“We are saddened by the loss of lives and destruction caused by the disaster. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families. FairPrice readily stands alongside the Singapore Red Cross in reaching out to the community here to raise much needed funds to help the survivors get back on their feet and rebuild their lives. As a social enterprise, we are committed to not only help our local community, but also to extend a helping hand to our friends overseas. ” said Mr Tan Kian Chew, Group CEO, NTUC FairPrice.
Last year, NTUC FairPrice also championed a public donation drive through its stores for the Singapore Red Cross China Earthquake Appeal. A total of S$150,000 was raised including a donation of S$20,000 from NTUC FairPrice to kick start the donation drive.
“Singapore Red Cross is grateful for the continued support of NTUC FairPrice towards our various fundraising initiatives. We are able to leverage on FairPrice’s extensive network of stores island-wide, providing members of the public the convenience and opportunity to express their support to our humanitarian work,” Mr Christopher Chua, Secretary General of the Singapore Red Cross.
The Singapore Red Cross donation tins and boxes in aid of the Philippines Tropical Storm Appeal and the Padang (Sumatra) Earthquake Appeal will be available from 10 October 2009 onwards at all FairPrice supermarkets, Cheers and FairPrice Xpress convenience stores across Singapore. The donation drive will end on 30 October 2009.Back
