NTUC FairPrice Foundation takes the lead and donates $500,000 to Ren Ci

Donation marks the first significant corporate donation to the flagship fundraising event of Ren Ci Hospital & Medicare Centre (‘Ren Ci’)

Donation will strengthen Ren Ci’s medical care infrastructure to provide medical care to the needy sick

The NTUC FairPrice Foundation will be donating $500,000 in aid of Ren Ci’s beneficiaries, in conjunction with the upcoming Ren Ci Charity Show 2010.

This marks the first significant corporate donation to the flagship fundraising event of Ren Ci. In addition to the generous donation, the NTUC FairPrice Foundation will be placing donation boxes at over 80 FairPrice outlets spread across the island from today till 31 March 2010, where all proceeds would go towards Ren Ci.

Mr Ng Ser Miang, Chairman for NTUC FairPrice Foundation and NTUC FairPrice, explained that the Foundation has taken the lead to spur spontaneity and encourage more support, as Ren Ci’s dedication to the needy sick is in line with the Foundation’s strategic thrust to help the less fortunate.

Mr Ng said, "NTUC FairPrice Foundation supports Ren Ci's work in helping the needy sick have access to medical care. Given recent developments, we foresee that Ren Ci is likely to face challenges in continuing its operations, and will benefit from every possible help it can get. As such, the FairPrice Foundation is happy to contribute half a million dollars to Ren Ci, so that it can continue its meaningful work for the community."

“We are very glad that NTUC FairPrice Foundation has taken the lead to make such a significant donation to Ren Ci.” said Mr Chua Thian Poh, Chairman of Ren Ci Hospital & Medicare Centre.  He added, “Constant funding from both corporations and individuals is essential to help alleviate operating expenses and strengthen our medical care infrastructure.”

Ren Ci’s new Community Hospital premises at Irrawaddy Road boasts excellent clinical step down and sub-acute care in the form of 277 beds and a rehabilitation centre. Presently, Ren Ci Hospital & Medicare Centre has a total of 661 in-patient beds, providing medical care to a diverse group of patients, from the chronic sick to the nursing home.

Ren Ci hopes to raise $4 million from the 3.5-hour Charity Show, which will be telecast live on Sunday 24 January 2010, at 7.30pm on MediaCorp Channel U.

Launched in March 2008, NTUC FairPrice Foundation is a registered charity set up by NTUC FairPrice to support its corporate giving and contributions to causes that are aligned with its social mission. To date, the Foundation has disbursed over $15 million to various causes.
