Singapore, 8 December 2013- More than 1000 residents will be coming together in an early Christmas celebration with a charity twist on Sunday, 8 December 2013. The event, Celebrating Love: A Season of Giving, will be held at Pasir Ris Elias Community Club (CC). It also marks the finale of a charity drive at Pasir Ris West, garnering donations across 2 events organised by Pasir Ris Elias Commmunity Club Management Committee (CCMC) - the Pasir Ris West Charity Car Wash held 2 weeks ago and the Celebrate Love: A Season of Giving. The donations garnered will be presented to Children's Cancer Foundation (CCF) by Deputy Prime Minister and Grassroots Adviser to Pasir Ris - Punggol GROs Mr Teo Chee Hean.

Most children will be feeling very happy during the festive season and the Organising Committee would like to bring some warmth and happiness to the children in need too (CCF). This event and the charity drive bring the residents of all races and ages together for a meaningful cause through donations and gifts that the children wish for. They also bring joy and serve as a reminder for everyone to do their part during the season of giving. Besides fun-filled activities such as kiddy rides, lucky dips and stage performances, participants can continue to do their part for charity with the purchases of art pieces and homemade cookies specially prepared by volunteers of Pasir Ris West. The proceeds will go to CCF after the event.

Not forgetting the elderly during the season of giving, the North East CDC-NTUC FairPrice Foundation Wish Upon A Silver Star project, which seeks to benefit 200 needy elderly residents living in the North East district by raising funds to provide them with essential household items, will culminate in a finale officiated by DPM Teo. $100,000 was raised through a community effort of 40,000 volunteers, folding 1 million origami stars - every 10 stars folded would garner $1 in sponsorship from North East CDC and NTUC FairPrice Foundation. During the campaign from September to October this year, volunteers from all walks of life and age from more than 100 organisations and groups, such as schools, corporations, hospital patients and prison inmates, stepped forward to fold the stars.

These paper stars are subsequently given a new lease of life in the form of ornaments and art pieces. Special needs beneficiaries of the Christian Outreach to the Handicapped (COH), who are not able to fold the stars due to mobility or dexterity challenges, have made their own special contribution by making recycled art pieces out of the stars. These art pieces will be sold during "Celebrate Love: A Season of Giving", with proceeds going towards the CCF. Temasek Polytechnic's Centre for TransCultural Studies will use the remaining stars to create 18 sculptures - one for each of the 18 divisions in the North East district. One sample sculpture will be displayed at the event.
