Community Chest holds first flag day in two decades
-FairPrice Foundation announces new FairPrice Foundation-ComChest Enriching Lives Fund at Community Chest Orange Day
To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Community Chest will be holding its first Community Chest Orange Day, with the theme "Community Helping Community". On 13 July, volunteers decked in orange will fan out island-wide in six locations to raise funds for over 300,000 beneficiaries at Community Chest's first flag day in two decades. Sharity Elephant, Community Chest's Care and Share Ambassador, will also make his appearance in a bright new orange costume on 13 July at various locations across the island.
Members of the public can go to Wisma Atria Level 1 Indoor Atrium on 13 July between 11am to 9pm to join in the festivities as well as donate through many fundraising avenues like painting a grid on the Charity Mosaic canvas wall. Impromptu performances will also be put up by various groups, including staff and beneficiaries of Community Chest-supported charities and polytechnic students to inject energy and spontaneity into the celebrations. Singapore Flyer will be beautifully lit in orange come dusk and blend with the orange hue of the setting sun.
"We are very excited to galvanise our corporate partners and the public for this unique event to lend a hand to the disadvantaged in our community. Many, from the volunteers for flag day fanning out island-wide to the various groups who will be putting up impromptu performances to add a dash of colour to our festivities, have rallied support for our meaningful causes. They truly brought to life the theme of ‘Community Helping Community' in the Community Chest Orange Day campaign.
We hope that more organisations and individuals will help us to enable our young beneficiaries to have access to education, needy families to become stronger, persons with disabilities to lead independent lives and seniors to age with dignity," said Ms Ng Ling Ling, General Manager of Community Chest.
