NTUC FairPrice introduces new Vietnamese products through inaugural Vietnam Fair

-Vietnam Fair brings greater variety to customers and diversity of food sources

-Shoppers will enjoy up to 15 percent discount on 40 popular Vietnamese products

SINGAPORE, 29 MAY 2014 - NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) has launched its inaugural Vietnam Fair today, to showcase a variety of gastronomical delights to whet the appetites of shoppers. The event was held today at FairPriceXtra at JEM and was graced by the Vietnam Ambassador to Singapore, His Excellency Tran Hai Hau; Communist Party Central Committee Member and Vice General Secretary of the Communist Party of Ho Chi Minh City, Mdm Nguyen Thi Thu Ha; and officiated by NTUC FairPrice Chairman, Mr Ng Ser Miang.

Co-organised with the Vietnam Embassy, the Vietnam Fair will showcase some 40 items including popular favourites like Vietnamese coffee, Vietnamese pho, dragon fruit and seafood, which will be offered at discounted prices of up to 15 percent for the duration of the fair.

Mr Ng said, "FairPrice recognises Singaporeans' love for travel and their adventurous taste for food from a variety of cultures. This is why we strive to bring in new and exciting quality products for our customers and introduce these products through country fairs. We organise about 10 country fairs each year so that our customers can enjoy the many diverse flavours. We will continue to source for interesting food products from around the world to add to our extensive range of products for our customers."

Growing Popularity of Vietnamese products

FairPrice ramped up its range of Vietnamese products by almost 30 percent from last year, offering over 400 products across 40 categories ranging from seafood, fruits and vegetables to rice, noodles, snacks and beverages.

A key daily essential that FairPrice brought in is Vietnamese rice to provide an alternative to Thai rice and further diversify sources. Since Vietnamese rice was introduced in 2007, the popularity of Vietnamese rice has increased significantly year-on-year and currently makes up 20 percent of total rice purchases at FairPrice, reducing the reliance on Thai rice. Before 2007, customers mainly only purchased Thai rice which made up over 95 percent of total rice sales at FairPrice.

The Vietnam Fair will be held at all 120 FairPrice stores island wide (including FairPrice Finest and FairPriceXtra hypermarkets) from 29 May 2014 to 11 June 2014. Availability of products may vary from store to store.
