NTUC FairPrice renews staff volunteerism commitment and initiates volunteering opportunities for customers
- FairPrice sets target of 5,000 staff volunteer hours by staff for 2016, with an additional 500 hours to be contributed by customers under its structured volunteer programme
SINGAPORE, 17 February 2016 – NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) today renewed its commitment to volunteerism, with a target of 5,000 volunteer hours to be contributed by its staff for 2016 under the FairPrice Volunteers’ Programme. In addition, FairPrice also aims to galvanise the community and encourage its customers to volunteer alongside its employees by contributing an additional 500 volunteer hours through various community activities. This follows a successful year of volunteering in 2015, where FairPrice met its goal of contributing 5,000 staff volunteer hours.
Mr Seah Kian Peng, CEO of NTUC FairPrice, said, “Volunteering brings about many benefits, to individuals, the organisation and the community. Beyond its impact on the needy, volunteering helps increase and strengthen one’s social network, enhances social and relationship skills, and provides a sense of purpose in life. This year, we intend to galvanise the broader community, including FairPrice customers, to offer them the opportunity to be involved also. This way, they too can reap the benefits of volunteering and join us in our efforts to give back to our society.”
FairPrice kicked off its volunteer activities for 2016 today at Ren Ci Nursing Home, an organisation that FairPrice has supported since 2009. Senior management staff of NTUC FairPrice along with staff volunteers spent the morning with residents at the nursing home, serving food, distributing mandarin oranges, and playing games.
Since the launch of the FairPrice Volunteers’ Programme in 2012, FairPrice staff have contributed over 12,000 volunteer hours through various activities such as packing and distributing food to those in need, visiting beneficiaries’ homes or participating in excursions with them such as movies or park visits, and cleaning the homes of elderly residents who live alone. All volunteers undergo training to equip them with practical knowledge of volunteerism and working with beneficiaries.
FairPrice will be looking to include customers who wish to be involved volunteerism in these activities as well. More details will be announced later this year.
