NTUC FairPrice celebrates Hari Raya Aidilfitri by donating to the needy and distributing food during Ramadan
- FairPrice will distribute dates and beverages in support of Muslim customers over the Ramadan period
- Low-income families from Tampines will receive $15,000 worth of FairPrice housebrand daily essentials as part of Hari Raya celebrations
SINGAPORE, 12 May 2018 – NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) today announced it will continue to offer dates and beverages to Muslim customers across 40 stores islandwide during Ramadan. This was announced at Our Tampines Hub, where 300 low-income residents received festive bags containing necessities from FairPrice.
CEO of NTUC FairPrice, Mr Seah Kian Peng, said: “FairPrice has served the community through our social mission to moderate the cost of living and ensure daily essentials remain affordable. We also complement this with our various ongoing Do Good efforts to all segments of the community, across all races, faith and age. We hope that these initiatives will encourage the community to join us in building a society that is not only caring and inclusive but also one that is giving.”
The event was graced by Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs and Advisor for Tampines Grassroots Organisations (GROs), where volunteers from FairPrice and Tampines GROs packed and distributed festive bags containing FairPrice housebrand daily essential items, amounting to $15,000 in total, to low-income families residing in the Tampines Group Representation Constituency. The festive bags contain FairPrice housebrand daily essential items including rice, oil, biscuits and cereal.
Celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Catering to Muslim customers
FairPrice will also be offering dates and beverages to all Muslim customers daily from 15 May to 14 June 2018, half an hour before and after the time of break fast.
The initiative, which has been ongoing since 2009, has been further expanded to 40 stores island-wide,10 more stores than in 2017.
As part of its ongoing efforts to cater to the needs of Muslim customers, FairPrice carries over 4,700 Halal-certified products, including over 250 FairPrice housebrand products. These products are sourced from various countries including Australia, Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Turkey and USA.
To drum up the festive cheer leading up to Hari Raya Aidilfitri, festive decorations will be put up at stores, and FairPrice will organise a host of in-store activities. Special discounts and promotions will also be offered to provide greater savings to customers.
