Cleaning and Hygiene
[Prior to first use and once daily]
- Disassemble, wash and rinse all parts.
- Place parts in a saucepan of sufficient capacity.
- Fill with cold water until the parts are well covered.
- Optionally, a teaspoon of citric acid may be added to avoid a build-up of limescale.
- Heat it up and allow it to boil for 5 minutes.
- Alternatively, the disassembled parts can be sanitized in Medela Quick Clean Microwave Bags or in the top rack of the dishwasher or steam-sterilized.
[After each use]
- Disassemble and wash all parts in warm, soapy water.
- Rinse in clear water and allow parts to air-dry on a clean towel

<br> [Freezing expressed breast milk] Breast milk storage bags are ideal for freezing your expressed breast milk, as they're freezer-proof, ready to use and easy to label - simply fill in the panel on the front of the bag to keep track of the dates. Remember that, like all liquids, breast milk expands as it freezes, so don't fill the milk storage bags past the 180 ml mark, which is clearly labelled. Thanks to their flat shape, the bags are easy to slip into the freezer - and quick to defrost, too.
<br> [Thawing frozen breast milk] To avoid losing all the vitamins, minerals and other important ingredients in your breast milk, always thaw your frozen breast milk storage bag inside the fridge. This will take around eight hours, so make sure you factor the time into your preparations.
